Yamaha Pro Watercraft Racers Sweep P1 AquaX Round 2 in St. Pete’s Beach, Fla.

Unbeaten Yamaha GP1800 Rider Eric Francis Now #1 in World Rankings

Yamaha pro watercraft racers swept the Enduro Pro podium at Round 2 of the P1 AquaX Pro Series held at St. Pete Beach, Florida, led by Yamaha GP1800 rider Eric Francis.

Joining Francis on the podium were fellow GP1800 riders Brian Baldwin and Aero Aswar who finished 2-3 respectively. The overall win moved Francis to the #1 spot in the world rankings.

Hot, humid, and with one to three-feet ocean chop; the conditions took its toll on the racers to include GP1800 racer Chris MacClugage, who felt out of sorts all weekend, exasperated by several long race course delays.

MacClugage finished second in moto 1, but was not physically able to finish moto 2. The weekend setback allowed Francis to jump the multi-time World and national champion in the World rankings.

Francis looked to be the racer least affected by the Florida heat and humidity, winning moto 1 and 2. Although Francis gave up the holeshots to his fellow Yamaha riders, he was able to pick off the racers in front of him in rapid succession.

Racer Brian Baldwin rode with his usual consistency and speed to finish 3-2 for the weekend. Aero Aswar overcame mechanical gremlins in moto 1 to finish strong in moto 2 for third place overall for the weekend. In all, Yamaha riders dominated the top five positions with Aqsa Aswar and Chris Saxon finishing 4-5 respectively.

P1 AquaX racing action continues June 30 through July 1 at the Sarasota Grand Prix held in Sarasota, Florida.
