It was an exciting two days of racing at Round 5 of the P1AquaX races held this weekend in Chicago with Yamaha riders battling it out to accumulate precious last points on the tour.
On Saturday, current overall points leader Chris MacClugage struggled to find footing while fellow Yamaha rider Eric Francis took the day’s wins. But MacClugage fought back on Sunday, pulling in back-to-back wins in the final races but it wasn’t enough to grab the weekend’s top podium spot.
Francis finished second in both races on Sunday and combined with the previous days’ wins, held enough points to grab the victory. Overall for the tour MacClugage still holds the lead with his Yamaha teammates close in his rear view mirror
Yamaha rider Brian Baldwin rounded out the podium with a #3 finish overall, while Tommy Olswang and Mike Klippenstein, also racing Yamaha, took the #4 and #5 spots respectively. Yamaha racer Chris Saxon finished sixth, rounding out an unbelievable showing for Yamaha for the weekend.
The season’s biggest races are coming up soon, beginning with the IJSBA World Finals held September 30-October 8 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. The following month sees the P1 AquaX Racing National Championship held November 18-19 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
